- Hittites: The first great Anatolian empire. They absorbed Hattian culture and ruled from Hattusa, heavily influencing areas around modern-day Avanos and Çorum.
- Phrygians: Centered around Gordion (near Ankara); famous for King Midas and their masterful woodwork and textiles.
