Day 1: The Gateway to Antiquity (Istanbul)

The journey begins in Istanbul, the eternal crossroads of empires. Upon arrival, guests will gather for an intimate welcome meeting to set the stage for the epic narrative ahead, preparing to trace the footsteps of ancient kings, prophets, and master artisans across the Mesopotamian plains. Overnight: Istanbul

Day 2: The Kingdom in the Clouds & Sunset of the Gods (Adıyaman / Mount Nemrut)

Following a morning flight to Adıyaman, the expedition officially begins with a scenic drive to the massive Atatürk Dam, where the tamed waters of the Euphrates offer a striking photo opportunity. As we ascend the rugged slopes of Mount Nemrut, we step into the legacy of the Commagene Kingdom, visiting the soaring Karakuş Tumulus and the monumental Roman Cendere Bridge.

The climax of the day arrives just before twilight. After a short ascent, guests reach the western terrace of Mount Nemrut—the 8th Wonder of the Ancient World. Here, surrounded by the colossal stone heads of King Antiochus, Zeus, Apollo, Heracles, and guardian lions and eagles, we watch the sun sink below the horizon, painting the ancient faces in hues of gold and crimson. Overnight: Adıyaman

Day 3: The Black Walls and The Living Stones (Diyarbakır / Mardin)

We depart Adıyaman for the sprawling city of Diyarbakır, pausing to witness its imposing black basalt walls—a formidable architectural masterpiece that has guarded the city for millennia.

The journey then continues to Mardin, a poetic city of honey-colored stone where languages and religions have gracefully intertwined for centuries. After checking in, guests will embark on a walking tour through the labyrinthine streets of Old Mardin, an open-air museum overlooking the vast Mesopotamian plains. The highlight of the afternoon is a visit to the “Living Museum” (Yaşayan Müze). Far from static exhibits, this space pulses with the rhythm of vanishing cultures. Guests will engage directly with local artisans, witnessing the delicate art of telkari (silver filigree), copper beating, and root dyeing. The experience is accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the Erbane (traditional drum), the enchanting melodies of the Reyhani dance, and the haunting, soulful chants of a Dengbêj (traditional Kurdish storyteller). Overnight: Mardin

Day 4: Ancient Scholars and Syriac Sanctuaries (Mardin / Dara / Midyat)

The morning opens at the serene Kasımiye Madrasah, a 15th-century masterpiece commissioned by the Akkoyunlu Sultan Kasım, where ancient astronomical and medical sciences were once taught to the soothing sound of flowing water.

Curated Optional Experience: Guests may choose to journey further back in time to the ancient garrison city of Dara, often called the “Ephesus of Mesopotamia,” descending into its awe-inspiring rock-cut cisterns and necropolis. The route then winds toward Midyat, the historic heartland of the Syriac Christian community. Here, guests will step into the spiritual silence of either Mor Gabriel or Deyrulzafaran Monastery, marveling at the enduring legacy of a community that still speaks a dialect of Aramaic, the language of Jesus. Guests who prefer a slower pace may opt to remain in Old Mardin for a day of unhurried, independent exploration. Overnight: Mardin

Day 5: The Origins of Faith & The Village of Minstrels (Şanlıurfa / Kısas)

Leaving Mardin, we travel toward Şanlıurfa, the legendary City of Prophets. Before reaching the city, we make a profound stop at Karahantepe. As one of the most significant recent archaeological discoveries on earth, this site predates even Göbeklitepe, offering a mind-bending glimpse into the dawn of human settlement and artistic expression.

Upon arriving in Şanlıurfa, we trace the spiritual heritage of the city: the sacred Pool of Abraham (Balıklıgöl), where fire turned to water; the tranquil Ayn Zeliha Lake; and the Cave where the Prophet Abraham was born. We will wander through the aromatic Spice and Copper Bazaars, pausing for a traditional tea in the historic Gümrük Han courtyard.

The Local Encounter: In the late afternoon, we journey just outside the city to Kısas (The Village of Minstrels). This is a rare, intimate immersion into Anatolia’s soulful Alevi-Bektashi culture. Guests will sit with local Aşıks (minstrels), listening to the hypnotic strums of the saz (traditional lute) and the poetic storytelling that has been passed down through generations, culminating in an introduction to the spiritual Semah rituals. Overnight: Şanlıurfa

Day 6: Point Zero in Time (Göbeklitepe / Harran)

Following breakfast, we stand at the epicenter of human history: Göbeklitepe. Walking among the towering T-shaped megaliths carved with fierce animal totems, our guide will explain how this 12,000-year-old temple completely shattered our understanding of early civilization, proving that the urge to worship sparked the agricultural revolution.

We then drive to the ancient plains of Harran. Here, guests will explore the iconic, cone-shaped “beehive” houses designed to stay cool in the desert heat, the ruins of the first Islamic University in Anatolia, and the grand Harran Mound. The day offers spectacular photography opportunities against a backdrop that feels completely untouched by the modern world. Evening: Guests may choose to join a vibrant “Sıra Gecesi,” a traditional Urfa musical feast accompanied by the rhythmic kneading of raw meatballs (çiğ köfte). Overnight: Şanlıurfa

Day 7: The Sunken City and the Gypsy Girl (Halfeti / Gaziantep)

Our morning begins with a drive to the Birecik Dam on the Euphrates River. We board a private boat to sail toward Halfeti, the land of the legendary black roses. The waters gently glide past the imposing Rumkale fortress and into the submerged village of Savaşan, where the solitary minaret of a sunken mosque breaches the water’s surface—a hauntingly beautiful testament to the power of the river.

Leaving the water behind, we arrive in the gastronomic capital of Gaziantep. The afternoon is dedicated to the Zeugma Mosaic Museum, home to some of the finest Roman mosaics ever discovered, including the mesmerizing, enigmatic gaze of the “Gypsy Girl.” We take a panoramic view of the historic Gaziantep Castle, a symbol of the city’s resilience, before checking into our hotel for a relaxing evening in this vibrant culinary hub. Overnight: Gaziantep

Day 8: Threads of Heritage and Culinary Mastery (Gaziantep Deep Dive)

Our extra day in Gaziantep allows for a complete immersion into the city’s living heritage. We begin just outside the city at the Yesemek Open-Air Museum, once the largest stone quarry and sculpture workshop of the ancient Near East. Walking among hundreds of half-carved Hittite sphinxes and lion statues resting on the hillside is an evocative, off-the-beaten-path historical encounter.

The Local Encounter: Returning to the city center, we shift our focus from ancient stone to living traditions. Rather than a standard restaurant lunch, guests will participate in a Culinary Masterclass hosted by a local women’s cooperative. Here, they will roll up their sleeves and learn the intricate, multi-layered art of rolling phyllo dough for authentic Gaziantep baklava or preparing regional specialties together—a true celebration of community and flavor.

In the afternoon, we dive into the labyrinth of the Coppersmiths’ Bazaar. Going beyond the storefronts, we will meet the master weavers of Kutnu fabric—a vibrant, striped silk and cotton blend unique to Gaziantep. By engaging with the artisans working to save this dying craft, guests directly support the preservation of regional artistry. The epic journey concludes with a sensory farewell at the historic Tahmis Kahvesi, where guests can reflect on their adventure over a steaming cup of traditional menengiç (wild pistachio) coffee. Overnight: Gaziantep

Day 9: Departure

After a final breakfast featuring the rich, diverse flavors of Gaziantep, guests will be transferred to the airport for their onward flights, carrying with them the unforgettable stories, flavors, and human connections of Southeastern Anatolia.
